Diversity unites. Those who raise the puppies live just as diverse lives as the blind handlers who receive the guide dogs. This is important because it sets the dogs up for success in their lives as guide dogs. For example, in this painting, one of the four-week-old puppies is now being raised by a family who works with horses. The family regularly travels to horses shows; so, the puppy is getting extensive exposure to horses and is gaining valuable experience traveling to new areas. Even if this puppy doesn’t end up being placed with a blind handler with horses, the positive experiences of going new places and seeing different animals, will give the puppy invaluable experience adjusting to new environments, which will serve the puppy well for the rest of her guide dog journey.
